Apply for the Network Security Trial

1) How will I know if I have been selected for the trial?

You need to sign up for the trial and then we will inform everyone that has been selected by email.

Applying for the trial does not guarantee acceptance.

2) How will the TalkTalk Network Security Trial begin?

The trial will begin when you receive details from us on how to activate the service.

3) How long will the trial run for?

It is anticipated that the trial will take about 6 weeks to complete. This will allow enough time for everyone that is on the trial to get used to the new experience.

4) What do you expect me to do?

We would like you to use the new network-based security service, its impact upon your browsing experience and its effectiveness in identifying threats and blocking certain categories of web content. We will also ask you for feedback on how easy it is to assess / and act upon any alerts you receive.

When going through the set-up we would like you to check that the information is correct and logical. If you see any errors or things you feel could be explained more clearly, please make a note about this, and provide the information in feedback after you have finished setting up the service.

5) I have multiple computers / devices / a wireless network at home. Does this pose any problems to you?

No, not at all, in fact this is good coverage for us if you can try different tasks on different computers and devices. For example, we are interested in feedback from using Mac's, set-top boxes, games consoles etc as much as we are from PCs protected with the Super Secure Boost. For the purposes of the trial it does not matter whether or not you have a wireless network. This trial does not provide extra protection from third parties trying to access a home wireless network: we are testing the security of the TalkTalk broadband network, which connects to the public internet and brings internet access into your premises. We always recommend you should encrypt any home wireless networks with the password protection available.

6) I understand there is a prize?

We have several prizes available,
1 x 32GB iPod Touch
This will be for the trialist who provides the most detailed and effective feedback, this can be a bug or feedback be it positive or negative about the product or a suggestion on how to improve the product. The decision is made by the TalkTalk Labs trial team.
There is also a draw for 10 prizes of a Amazon gift vouchers, trialists who successfully complete all the surveys will be entered into the prize draw
5 x £20 Amazon UK vouchers
5 x £10 Amazon UK vouchers
To be eligible trialists MUST have completed ALL the surveys requested during the trial.

7) I have a Mac, can I participate in the trial?

Yes.

8) What if I require support during the trial?

Support is only available via Email only during this trial. The email address you need to get in touch with is networksecurity@talktalk-labs.com and we aim to reply to your question, query or suggestion within 1 working day.

9) What charges are involved?

You will still need to pay for you current broadband and phone service from TalkTalk as you normally would.

10) How long will the tasks take to complete?

Everyone does things at different speeds, but this process is not encouraged to be a race. The trial is about trying to spot issues maybe we or other trialists have missed, so a keen eye for detail is important us.

We will ask people to test both the safer surfing feature and the Parental Controls features. For the Safer Surfing we will have a safe site for you to visit.

11) What's expected of me as a participant on this trial?

You are expected to activate the Virus Alerts and Parental Controls elements of the Network Security service, and provide feedback to us. Also you can provide feedback at any point during the trial:

Report issues (e.g. "It was difficult to activate the service.")
Make suggestions (e.g. "the instructions when a threat was identified needed to be clearer")
Questions
General feedback (e.g. "This makes me feel safer online")

This feedback can be reported via the My Profile section here on the TalkTalk Labs web site, it's really quick and simple to use.
You will be asked to complete a couple of online surveys during the trial.

12) What if I want to end my participation in the trial early?

Although we would dearly like you to complete the trial, you are of course able to end your trial participation at any time during the trial. You will be asked for the reason for ending the trial and for any feedback you have up to the point of trial removal.

13) What happens when the trial is over?

When the trial is over, and your feedback has been processed, you will be able to continue to use the service, or deactivate it.

We may also keep you informed of any updates or news of the trial and we may invite you to participate in future trials.
