Fibre to the Home Announcement

Last updated on 2011-06-10 10:44:28

TalkTalk Labs are excited to announce the "Fibre to the Home" Trial.

The trial covers area within the coverage of a single exchange in the South Harrow area. Existing TalkTalk customers in the area will be contacted directly to join the trial as placed are limited with an initial target of 100 households. Potentially, the service will provide 100 Mbps download speed and greater stability.

Suitable applicants are being contacted at the moment, and regrettably, general applications (even if you live in the catchment area) are not being accepted.

Fibre to the Home, or "FTTH" (sometimes referred to as "Fibre to the Premise", or "FTTP ") is a network technology that carries your broadband supply from the exchange into your home using fibre-optic cabling. As it does not utilise the traditional copper phone line of ADSL, the performance of connections using this new technology is much higher than what can be achieved using the traditional phone lines.

The aim of the trial is to prove the performance improvements, support implications and installation methods for delivering broadband services via Fibre to the Home compared to standard ADSL and Fibre to the Cabinet.

Successfully selected trialists will retain their current TalkTalk ADSL broadband and phone service during the period of the trial.

This is a new construction trial, in other words, there will be an amount of work being carried out by TalkTalk and strategic partners to get the fibre to the home, including work inside the property boundaries. An installation and setup of FTTH is expected to take 1 day to complete, depending on the property.
